As I approach the state of pure euphoria
I find I need a large size typewriter case
to carry my underwear in
and scars on my conscience
are wounds imbedded in
the gum eraser of my skin
which still erases itself
AS I approach the state of pure euphoria
moon hides hot face in cool rice rain (...)

Hej Ande,

Jag gillar Ferlinghetti och den här versen är suverän. Ganska lik din poesistil.

Hej Jenny,

Ja han kan skriva bra dikter.
Tack.

Jasmine sa...

This is a wonderful excerpt. Thanks for sharing it, I have not come across this poet before.

Thanks for sharing the excerpt Ande.

I have been reading The Rainbow by Lawrence, and his writings are incredibly articulate and emotionless, at times.

Do keep writing. :)

working with problems wich will take forever ....

state of euphoria is one of the most dangerous states for me ...
i should try some euphoria now crashing this horrible telephone screaming on my ear the whole morning or killing the bastard that insist to remember and talk to me .

i liked so much the part of the gum eraser of my skin wich still arases itself ...
my kind of thing...
thanks for to share this guy !!

Jinghua FAN 得一忘二 sa...

"pure euphoria" from ...? I like him too.

Mariana Soffer sa...

When I first started working I was just 16 I wanted to kill my self, life was so boring then, I thought that my whole future will look like it, surrounded by boring people who just did accounting in a company, and they did not care about any other things.
As I grew older I got better, I managed to get better jobs, the ones I liked more, and learn to live with little money but enjoy many other things.
Great great text, It feels like it is me 20 years ago.

Take care Andee

So...a poem can be like a short sharp shock to the system?

The Scrybe sa...

Thanks for the slice of Ferlinghetti. I'd not heard of him before...

Jukka sa...

kan du inte ändra så det står "jukka under the sea" i läslistan. ser löjligt ut med diving ju.

Andy Coffey sa...

Ande,

While I have always written poems, I have not always given the proper attention to those poets all around me who I should be as moved by, as you seem to be.
Your thoughts on this poem make me a better person, more thoughtful about the value of words I claim to love.
Thanks.

Jasmine - He is a wonderful poet. Ferlinghetti is of course joined with SF (and became poet laureate there a while ago). Fame and money can change many people. SF is hardly the same as it was forty years ago. But Ferlinghetti seems to have more integrity (at least from the interviews I have read with him).

Aditya - Thanks. You are quite brave if you're reading the Rainbow, man.

Caio - He is one of the best, I think.

Jinghua - "Starting from San Francisco", one of his earliest books.

Mariana - Thanks!

Andy - There are so many we are indebted to.
Thank you.

Anders Enochsson sa...

The Scrybe – The poem is much longer. I hope this slice gives it somewhat justice.

ArtSparker – Yes, for me definitely.

Jukka – This has been done.

Hi Ande,
I have not heard of this poet either but I like this poem very much.
I think the state of euphoria is one of the best states to be in!;)
You work with computers don't you? So does my partner. He likes to listen to Euphoric Trance music, on his headphones, while he is coding.
He thinks coding is like Zen meditation!;)
What do you think?
Jo.

What a great and somewhat funny poem.I love this line I find I need a large size typewriter case
to carry my underwear.
One can't be bored with a typewriter to carry around in one's underpants !

I've never heard of this poem before and I love it ! thanks

I sure related to this post. I had many boring jobs. One of them was as a typist in a state office where everyone did the same thing over and over each day. I made a hand-printed sign and tacked it to the bulletin board above my desk. It said
ENNUI

Never heard of this poet before and like the tantalizing offering.

Jo - Yes, you are right. Coding is the fun part. It's overall arrangement which is the tricky part. The funny thing with computers is that years and years of history is embedded in its language. So even if people think they are quite new, its semantics is ancient. Another language. Thank you.

Velvetwoods - Thanks!

Lydia - Let's hope for what's he is offering. Thank you.

joanne May sa...

Hi Ande,
Paul agrees with you. He says to me it is like learning another language and involves a lot of problem solving, which he seems to enjoy!
I think it would drive me mad.
Anyway, thanks and have a good week.
Jo.

Ande sa...

Hi Jo

Yes, its a language and a machine. I think many people are scared away by the technical bit in programing, however nowadays there are so much help when compiling code and making a program so its not so strange. When devising large programs its lots of solving however.
I am sorry if a have been a stranger lately. Work.
See you soon.
Ande
